Welcome to this week’s 920 Weekly Roundup! Let’s see what’s been in the news this week…
Sick of your children having access to anything and everything on YouTube? Well on Android and Apple devices you can now download a family-friendly YouTube version. Just launched in New Zealand, this app contains restricted search settings, a timer for limited use, voice search and doesn’t allow comments. This version is supposed to be a lot more secure with local channels featuring children’s shows and the option for parents to flag non-suitable videos. Parents can also turn off the search button and just use the videos on the home screen if they are concerned. The app also contains four sections: shows, music, learning, and explore. From the sound of it so far it could be a good option for keeping young kids from viewing inappropriate videos.
Apple’s new TV device is now available in New Zealand. The device plugs into your TV allowing you to use apps in order to watch TV and movies, play games, and access other services like YouTube. It has a similar layout to other Apple products making it easy to use. TV3 and Netflix are already available making streaming very accessible. With the features of an app store, improved Wi-Fi, streaming capabilities, games, and an included remote control – it looks like the Apple TV could be the next device alongside your Sky and Freeview box!
New Balance have just released their newest product – a 3D printed running shoe. Although there is not yet a lot of information about the product; it shows how much the technology world is influencing all areas of life. Designed and built with experts in running and biomechanics alongside plastics engineering, material development, and generative design; the product is sure to be of high quality. This could allow New Balance to customise shoes more specifically for individuals in the future.
Enjoy your weekend!
