Welcome to this week’s 920 Weekly Roundup! Let’s see what’s been in the news this week..
A new ‘smart mount’ system has be unveiled for cars by a NZ tech duo. Nick Bartlett designed ‘Bluejay’ which is used as a way to keep driving safe but also allowing the driver to be connected to the outside world. The device comes with an app that allows you to pre-programme messages and calling and have access to navigation and entertainment with a single tap. The device is designed to sit on your dashboard in the line of sight. The device also contains other features including, parking meter notifications, remote control for smart home systems, pre-programmed emergency calls and a do-not-disturb mode. A Kickstarter campaign begins today to raise the funds to put the system into action.
3D printers have taken on a new challenge – building parts of planes. Air New Zealand are using 3D printers for their long-haul planes. Alongside Auckland University of Technology, they have been manufacturing the fold down cocktail trays that form part of the seat by using 3D printing. By using 3D printing, replacement is much easier and quicker as there will be no waiting for delivery and no need to hold stock of every replacement part potentially needed. This new way of manufacturing is very time efficient, cost-effective and still meets safety requirements. Apparently this is just one of many innovative moves the airline has underway.
As I’m sure most of you have noticed whilst scrolling through your Facebook news feed, Facebook have finally added a selection of emoticons users can chose from to react to posts. The rollout of ‘Reactions’ went worldwide on Wednesday. So far the emoticons available include Angry, Sad, Wow and Like. For desktop users, hover your mouse over the like button and the new reactions bar will appear. For mobile users, close down the app and reopen it – when you next click the ‘Like’ button a message will appear with instructions on how to use the reactions.

Have a wonderful weekend!
