How does IT influence other departments in NZ firms?

IT and technology is becoming more vital to businesses.

In our current age, the use of technology is no longer limited to just the IT department. Businesses across New Zealand are discovering the value of integrating IT into other major business functions.

However, building a strong portfolio across the entire company can be a challenge. This is where seeking expert advice through IT contracting can help firms become more technologically adept.

Technology propels global competitiveness

When it comes to ICT usage, New Zealand is performing especially well.

According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), New Zealand businesses are utilising IT to make an impact in the global market. The WEF ranked the nation 16th out of 140 countries in terms of competitiveness.

When it comes to ICT usage, New Zealand is performing especially well, gaining the 14th spot on the list, ahead of large countries like Australia and the United States. This puts the nation only 0.6 points behind Luxembourg, the highest ranked nation in this regard.

However, New Zealand holds the 20th spot for technological adoption, which is an area that may see further focus in the future.

TUANZ reveals strategy for digital connectivity

In order to propel future competitiveness, the Telecommunications Users Association of New Zealand (TUANZ) has announced it will collaborate with both government and business organisations to help propel widespread use of digital innovations.

"Digital technology and connectivity are the defining opportunities of the modern era, and throughout New Zealand we need to inform, educate and support businesses to raise their digital competency and take advantage of the opportunity in the digital economy," said TUANZ Chair Pat O'Connell.

For those looking for IT jobs in New Zealand, the ability to support all departments within a business will be a key factor in landing a role in the future.

Marketing managers leading IT decisions

A recent survey conducted by Telsyte revealed some interesting insights into how marketing managers are interacting with technology.

Out of the 255 chief marketing officers and marketing leaders from large firms in Australia and New Zealand, 91 per cent are making decisions regarding their technological and software requirements.

Marketing professionals are becoming more involved in IT purchases. Marketing professionals are becoming more involved in IT purchases.

However, these decisions have not always been a success. In fact, 36 per cent of IT leaders stated that their organisation had seen problems during the decision making process. The most common of these were related to integration requirements (cited by 36 per cent of cases), inconsistent technology selection (33 per cent) and security (32 per cent).

These results should lead to a shift in perception when it comes to IT recruitment in New Zealand. Rather than dealing with one specific department, IT specialists must learnt to interact with other business leaders to achieve desirable outcomes for the whole company.
